Blackberry Cream Cheese Spread is an excellent addition to your Fruit Cheese charcuterie board. Serve it with graham crackers, apple slices, and crackers. You can also use raspberries or blueberries instead of blackberries. If you don’t like the tartness of blackberries, try raspberries or beech-nut apples. Store in an airtight container or mason jar for up to two weeks.
You know that strawberry cream cheese spread you can buy at the store? Yeah…. I dislike that stuff. It doesn’t taste like strawberry. In fact, it doesn’t even taste like artificial strawberry. It tastes like strawberry-koolaide-powder spread. It’s sickly sweet.
And when I don’t like something, I make it my own killer way.
When we went blackberry picking last Saturday we had to arrive at the farm at 7am. So I was back home by 9am and I am one of those people that can not go back to sleep once I have woken up. So I decided to grab some coffee and breakfast, and of course I planned on eating some of my fresh berries that morning as well. I usually enjoy breakfast tacos on the weekend, but something about a taco and fresh blackberries didn’t sound appealing, so I purchased a few bagels, still warm from the oven.
I grabbed some whipped cream cheese and right before I slathered some onto my toasted bagel, I thought well why not flavor this cream cheese with the blackberries? The spread was not sickly sweet like that strawberry flavored stuff. In fact it was still a bit tart and I thought it went great on the bagels.
I almost feel silly sharing this recipe because of it’s simplicity. Almost.
