Easy to make Grilled Portabella Mushrooms – 2 steps

Any healthy eater or vegetarian knows this feeling…

You get an invite to a BBQ or gathering and immediately wonder if there will be anything healthy for you to eat. And you start to fret. What will you eat? Are they only grilling meat? Should you bring a salad? Is that rude? But it’s rude NOT to eat. What to do?

Solution, Portabella Mushrooms.

On Sunday, Kyle and I went to a cookout with his family by the lake. I’m glad that every time we get together and grill we have gotten into the habit of grilling portabella mushrooms. They are great for those avoiding meat or those trying to eat a bit healthier, and I saw plenty of meat eaters trying them.

And not only are these delicious and meaty but they are a great source of potassium (which helps regulate blood pressure and helps ensure the proper functioning of cells.) A 3oz Portabella mushroom cap provides more potassium than a banana or orange.

Notes

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day! It doesn’t feel like a holiday to me, but more like a much needed day off work where we can all get together and light up the grills and drink some beer.
Well… I guess that is reason enough to celebrate!

About Grilled Portabella Mushrooms

Grilled Portobello Mushrooms Recipe - Cooking LSL

Grilled Portabella Mushrooms are a satisfying alternative to meat

If you are looking for a delicious, satisfying alternative to meat, portabella mushrooms are an excellent choice. They provide a great nutritional profile that includes antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and immune support. They are low glycemic, and their high umami flavor makes them a satisfying alternative to meat. Here’s how to make Grilled Portabella Mushrooms.

To make a delicious meal without the guilt of consuming animal products, you can try marinating portabella mushrooms and grilling them in an indoor skillet or grill. While the mushrooms don’t get the grill marks, they are still juicy and savory and can be a great meal in and of themselves. You’ll need four large portobello mushrooms, a marinade (mixed of balsamic vinegar, tamari, grapeseed oil, fresh garlic, liquid smoke, granulated onion, salt, and pepper) and a pan to cook them.

They are a fungi

You’ve probably had grilled portabella mushrooms at some point in your life. These delicious, nutrient-dense mushrooms are a staple of many vegan meals. While they can be difficult to prepare, they can also be marinated for hours or even overnight. Once soaked, these mushrooms can be grilled for just a few minutes or for as long as you like. Grilling them is a great way to get the same great taste, but they’re also healthy, so they’re perfect for meal prep.

Grilled portabella mushrooms are one of my favorite meat substitutes. This fungus is dense, meaty and holds up well to the heat of a grill. I can easily substitute a beef patty for a veggie burger, and I’ve even made vegan “steaks” with the mushroom caps. Their rich flavor is unbeatable, and it takes very little to bring out the best in them.

They release liquid when grilled

The gills of grilled portabella mushrooms can release liquid as much as two tablespoons. Once the mushrooms are sliced, you can cook them faster. You can also remove the gills. You can place the mushrooms in the refrigerator for a couple of days before cooking. If you want them to hold longer, remove them. Grilling them also allows them to absorb some of the marinade and water.

They are marinated

To prepare this delectable grilled dish, marinate the mushroom caps with extra virgin olive oil. The marinade can also be prepared in advance and stored in a plastic ziploc bag. Shake the bag occasionally to ensure even marinating. Place the mushrooms, gills up, on a clean plate. Light your grill and stack the briquettes. Grill the mushrooms for about 5 minutes per side, until they are tender. Rest them before serving.

Grilled Portabella mushrooms are ideal for grilling. They are large – between four to six inches in diameter – and do not need to be sliced. Before grilling, however, score the caps to loosen the surface layer and allow the marinade to penetrate. Be careful not to over-marinate the mushrooms, as the marinade will make them mushy. The marinade should last for about 30 minutes.

They are a crowd-pleaser

The meaty texture of portabella mushrooms make them a perfect ingredient for a grilled dish. They also hold their shape well and take on a meaty flavor and texture when grilled. A great substitute for burgers, this veggie dish will please everyone at your party. If you’d like to add an extra vegetable to your menu, you can try using little brown cremini mushrooms instead.

First, prepare the marinade. Mix it with a bit of water and vinegar. Place it in a shallow dish large enough to hold the mushrooms. Add the mushrooms, alternating sides, and coat both sides with it. Marinate the mushrooms for at least 30 minutes before grilling them. Make sure to check the mushrooms for doneness near the end. The mushrooms will look done when they are charred on both sides.
