I am so happy it’s Fall!
For the obvious reasons, but mainly because I have a food blog and its a known fact that food in the Fall is so much better than any other time of the year.
I can’t wait to make my first pumpkin pie, pecan pie and sweet potato pie of the season. I can’t wait to get together with the family and eat the comforting food I look forward to all year. Except this year everyone may have to eat a cold plate because you know I am going to be snapping pictures of everything.
(Sorry, I’m a food blogger. That’s what we do!)
I also can’t wait to go to the State Fair next month and share with you all of the unbelievable, fried goodness! I hear fried butter (that is whipped and sweetended) is making an appearance this year. Yes Paula Deen, I said fried butter.
But until all that happens, here are some Maple Sugar Cookies
Maple Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 stick Butter softened
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 1/2 of an Egg Yolk
- 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
- 1 1/2 cup AP Flour
- pinch of Salt optional
- Maple Syrup for brushing
- Sanding Sugar
Instructions
- preheat oven to 335 degrees
- Cream butter and both sugars for 3 minutes, until pale and fluffy.
- Add half egg yolk and maple syrup, cream for 30 minutes. Scrape the sides of the bowl and cream for another 30 minutes.
- Add the flour and salt if using to the bowl and mix until combined.
- Divide the dough into two portions and wrap each in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes (or pop in the freezer for 10 minutes like I did).
- Flour your work surface and rolling pin and roll out one of the portions of dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out your maple leafs (or any shape will work) and place as many as you can on a baking sheet at least 1 inch apart. (The cookie shouldn't spread when baking.)
- Using a pastry brush, brush maple syrup on the cookies and sprinkle with sanding sugar.
- Bake for 8-9 minutes, rotating the tray half way though baking. Let cool one minute (if you can wait that long) before enjoying!

About Maple Sugar Cookies
Recipe
This recipe for maple syrup sugar cookies is loaded with the flavor of maple syrup. The cookies have a buttery crumb and a hint of pure maple flavor. You can use your favorite cookie cutter for these delicious cookies. You can even decorate the finished cookies by brushing them with maple syrup or by sprinkled them with half a cup of maple sugar. These cookies freeze well, and can also be packaged in a pretty maple leaf box.
Chilling
If you’ve ever made maple sugar cookies, you know how difficult they can be. However, with a little preparation, you can make them delicious! To make maple sugar cookies, simply combine butter, sugar, eggs, maple extract, and flour. Then, mix in the dry ingredients. Chill the dough for at least an hour, and then you’re ready to cut the cookies into desired shapes! While the dough chills, you can prepare the frosting.
The dough for the maple sugar cookies should be chilled for several hours before baking. It’s also important to chill the dough before rolling it out. Roll it out to about 1/8″ thickness, then cut with a maple leaf cookie cutter. After chilling, transfer it to a baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough, cutting and baking until desired shapes are achieved. Once the cookies are completely cool, you can drizzle with the maple glaze or sprinkle them with more.
Glaze
A Maple Glaze on Maple Sugar Cookies is the perfect way to top these delicious treats! To make a glaze, combine maple syrup and butter and whisk them together in a bowl. When the glaze is ready, add a generous amount of maple extract to taste and mix well. Allow cookies to cool for about 15 minutes before glazing. Place a baking sheet beneath the sheet to catch any drips. Bake for about eight minutes.
Make a simple maple syrup glaze by combining powdered sugar and maple syrup. To make the glaze more colorful, tint it yellow or red and dapple it onto the leaves. Once the cookies are cool, place them in an airtight container and enjoy. These cookies make a delicious treat any time of the year! You can even serve them for breakfast or a special dessert! These cookies are great to share with loved ones and are a fun treat for any occasion!
Storage
If you’re in the mood for some maple flavor in your cookies, try topping them with crumbled crispy bacon or a drizzle of maple syrup. If you want to avoid the maple flavor altogether, you can simply use plain sugar cookies without the cream. If you prefer, you can also tint them according to the season. You can also add spices such as cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice to the cookie dough. Regardless of the season, these cookies will taste delicious.
To store these delicious cookies, allow them to cool completely before storing them. They keep for about a week at room temperature. If you want to store them longer, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. Place the cookies in a freezer bag or container, and seal it tightly. When you’re ready to serve them, leave them out for about 15 minutes at room temperature. You can also chill them overnight.
