- Peel outer layer of pearl onions until they are all clean and uniform.
- Place the butter in a large sauté pan and melt on medium high heat. Add the onions to the pan and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until aromatic. Add water to the pan, it should sizzle.
- Add salt, pepper and sugar to pan and mix to coat onions. Cook for 5-7 minutes stirring often, until softened and the outside of the onions are lightly browned. Serve while warm.
